Sometimes social workers are the only mental health professionals supporting rural communities. Our area of service can mean traveling all across the region for home visits, and clinical care!

Come rain or snow, your social worker is out there! Many social workers or helping professionals have 'mobile offices' like my rolling file box here. We work out in your community, bringing services to you no matter the weather. I've known many a counselor who could run their business pretty much from the trunk of their car based on all the extra resources, supplies and text books filling their trunks and back seats.
This is just one look at the daily life of a therapist and all the many roles we play.
What's your experience with working outside of a regular office? How do you manage to stay organized despite it all?

Self care can be such a buzz word, synonymous with bath bombs and face masks. But when we care for ourselves or others, it is sometime about doing the hard work - we don't always find the acts of caring easy or pleasant!

When your mother made you eat your vegetables, go to the dentist, clean your room, or teach you right from wrong, you didn't always enjoy it but you knew she was doing it out of caring. Setting goals for yourself and achieving them may take perseverance but you'll feel how much you are loved (by yourself!) when that hard work pays off!

Therapy isn't always about feeling better every time we leave a session. Sometimes we leave more confused and ruffled than when we went in! Change is super hard and painful at times because we are breaking habits, acknowledging avoidance and digging through some deeply engrained thoughts and feelings. .
But pain is a precursor for growth! Having the courage to do this work will be rewarded!

Did you know you can now safely attend for in-person counseling?

You might not see it, but behind this mask is the same smiling face of your compassionate therapist! This is the view you'll have when you attend for in-person sessions. With safety precautions in place, and screening at the door, I am happy to welcome my clients back into my office space with the following precautions:

😷 Wear a mask when entering the building and wear it throughout our appointment
📋 Complete a health-screening at the door following current PHGB regulations
👏 Use hand sanitizer at the front desk before entering the office
↔️ Maintaining 6-feet of distance during entirety of our visit

The office is thoroughly sanitized and cleaned between each appointment, and appointment times are staggered to ensure no clients are meeting in the waiting area.

Feeling so proud of our community and all that we are doing to keep each other safe! Stay positive and test negative friends!

This is a precious picture to me. The lighting is terrible. It's really not Instagram worthy. I'm positive my hair is not done, my face is bare and I'm possibly drooling/being drooled on by my toddler, but do you know why I love this photo so much?
..
Because I'm in it. ..
This is a rare shot taken by my husband and my heart swells at the thought he made sure to capture this moment, because for once I'm in front of the camera instead of behind it. ..
So many of us Mamas are the family historian, keeping track of all the moments of our kids lives in pictures and memories and so rarely are we actually seen in them.
..
I love that there's a record of me, tired and napping with my fussy child. It makes me feel seen. It makes me feel like I'm a part of the tapestry of our lives, not just the one trying to immortalize it for others to see.
..
So partners: take the photo. Take tons of photos. Candids. Ask them to pose. Low light, good light, no light. It doesn't matter. Make us visible.
